Under s 38 of the Children Act 1989 the court has the power to make interim care and supervision orders. Like an interim care order, an interim supervision order is an order that the court may make on the local authority’s application to cover the position until a final decision can be made. Unlike a care order, a supervision order does not give the local authority any parental responsibility. It places the local authority under a duty to advise, assist and befriend the supervised child and to take such steps as are reasonable to give effect to the order.
